6916 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Revenue: What is the salary band for a chief economist role in the Minister's departments, if any, if such a role or an equivalent role exists in those departments, if any?
Hon Simon Watts: Officials advise that Inland Revenue does not have a standalone Chief Economist role. Oversight accountability for economics and revenue forecasting sits within a “Chief Economist” portfolio allocated to one of the Policy Directors. This is not the sole accountability for this role.
The salary band for Policy Directors is GRS2, with a normal operating range of $200,138 to $259,744, and the possibility to pay up to $295,508 where there is a critical skills retention or attraction risk to address.
