6893 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Police: What protections, if any, exist in the Minister's department, if any, to prevent New Zealanders' information shared with US government departments, if any, being shared with third parties?
Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that information shared with USA law enforcement can only be used for the purpose requested, the information is to be stored securely while in use and is to be destroyed once no longer required. If a USA law enforcement agency want to on share information with a third party - authority has to be sought from the provider of the information.
In regard to the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), the SFO does not have any current information sharing agreements with any US government departments. It is not in the public interest for details about specific operational matters to be disclosed.
