6829 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What New Zealanders' data, if any, is shared by the Minister's department, if any, with any US government department?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I am advised that the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) may share data with international agencies when deemed appropriate by the relevant branches, privacy, and information management teams. When data is shared, the Department is responsible for meeting the guidance and policy requirements of the New Zealand Information Security Manual and other requirements such as those set out in the overarching New Zealand government security Protective Security Requirements and the Privacy Act 2020 regarding personal information. All information sharing agreements must be in accordance with New Zealand law and human rights obligations.
