6821 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for Social Development and Employment: How many vacancies, if any, were there in the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, as of 1 January 2025?

Hon Louise Upston: I am advised by the Ministry of Social Development (the Ministry) that as of 1 January 2025, the Ministry had 500 vacancies across 158 open requisitions. An open requisition indicates approval to recruit; it precedes any advertising. Some requisitions cover multiple identical roles. I am further advised that as at 1 January 2025 the Children’s Commissioner had 4 vacancies, the Independent Children’s Monitor had nil vacancies, the New Zealand Artificial Limb Service had 6 vacancies and the Social Workers Registration Board, at this point in time the data was not tracked.
