6805 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister responsible for the GCSB: What New Zealanders' data, if any, is shared by the Minister's department, if any, with any US government department?
Hon Judith Collins: I am unable to publicly disclose details regarding what information the GCSB may sometimes share with a partner agency in the course of its work to protect New Zealand and New Zealanders from national security threats. I note however that the GCSB only undertakes activity where there is a national security nexus, and collects intelligence in accordance with the National Security Intelligence Priorities. All of the activities of the GCSB, including any sharing of information with overseas public authorities, must be in accordance with New Zealand law, including all human rights obligations recognised by New Zealand law. These are obligations which the agency takes very seriously. The agency is also subject to independent oversight, for example, by the Inspector-General of Intelligence and Security.
