6774 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: Further to 3232 (2026), how many initial teacher education places did The Teacher's Institute apply for School Onsite Training Programme funding for in each of primary and secondary school programmes, listed by each year they applied?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that, the Teachers’ Institute applied for School Onsite Training Programme (SOTP) funding for: • 58 primary places and 123 secondary places for the 2026 academic year. This is the first year that the Ministry has contracted the Teachers’ Institute to deliver SOTP places. In 2025, the Teachers’ Institute was engaged by Westlake Boys High School on behalf of the Auckland Schools Teacher Training Programme to deliver 50 Ministry-funded secondary school SOTP places. Prior to 2025, SOTP was available only for teacher training in secondary schools and was delivered by two Initial Teacher Education providers only: University of Auckland and University of Waikato.
