Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: Further to 3230 (2026), how many initial teacher education places did The University of Waikato | Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato apply for School Onsite Training Programme funding for in each of primary and secondary school programmes, listed by each year they applied?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised by the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) that the, University of Waikato | Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato applied for School Onsite Training Programme (SOTP) funding for: • 48 primary places and 114 secondary places for the 2026 academic year. For 2025, existing providers from the 2023 and 2024 rounds, the University of Waikato and the University of Auckland, were each funded for 50 secondary places. As these were extensions of existing contracts, there was no application process for these allocations.
