6761 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Corrections: What New Zealanders' data, if any, is shared by the Minister's department, if any, with any US government department?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I am advised that Corrections does not currently share data with any US government departments and therefore has not been required to consider any protections from that information being shared with a third party. I am further advised that Corrections can be requested to answer questions from foreign embassies requesting data about their citizens who are in New Zealand prisons, and as some of those may hold dual citizenship, Corrections may release some information about people who hold New Zealand citizenship. However, Corrections has no record of such a request from the US embassy to date. This is also my response to WPQ 6759 (2025).
