6753 (2025). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Conservation: What protections, if any, exist in the Minister's department, if any, to prevent New Zealanders' information shared with US government departments, if any, being shared with third parties?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation advises me that they follow the expectations under the Privacy Act for the sharing of personal data. If data was to be shared with a US Government department, any such sharing would be considered by the Department first through a privacy and data security lens, and appropriate contractual or MOU controls would first be agreed to ensure appropriate data handling takes place.
