6686 (2025). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Justice: Why did he decide to appoint a person to chair the Criminal Cases Review Commission with primarily commercial law experience rather than the alternative candidate, who was a former President of the Criminal Bar Association and senior criminal law specialist with more than 30 years experience, including more than 100 jury trials?
Hon Paul Goldsmith: Like all appointments, a variety of options are considered. Hon Denis Clifford has a wealth of expertise and experience, and was considered to be the most suitable option.
