6669 (2026). Arena Williams to the Minister of Commerce and Consumer Affairs: What changes, if any, is the Minister considering for the Retail Payment System (Ban on Merchant Surcharges) Amendment Bill to help with the cost of living for consumers?

Hon Scott Simpson: I am not currently considering any changes, although I note that by banning surcharges consumers will be saving up to $65m a year attributed to excess surcharging by businesses.
