6600 (2024). Reuben Davidson to the Minister of Statistics: Can New Zealander's expect high-quality representative data in Census 2028 if general survey functions of the Census are replaced with administrative data and surveys of target groups?
Hon Andrew Bayly: Yes. The Government Statistician will deliver high-quality and fit-for-purpose data and statistics for New Zealanders from the 2028 Census. I am advised the Government Statistician is engaging with stakeholders and communities on how data will be collected for the 2028 Census. This includes an administrative data-first approach supplemented by a level of surveying appropriate to provide high-quality representative coverage of the population. Where populations are under-represented, currently not present in administrative data, misrepresented and/or hard to reach through sample surveys, I am advised that Stats NZ is designing bespoke solutions to fill these gaps.
