6290 (2026). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister of Immigration: What thresholds, if any, must be met before an Immigration New Zealand compliance officer may request identifying information from a person encountered during compliance activity?
Hon Erica Stanford: The current power only applies in circumstances where an immigration officer already has a reasonable basis for encountering the individual (e.g. on a site visit) and a reasonable cause to believe that the person is liable for deportation. For example, the person is subject to a deportation liability notice or deportation liability order or are they being served a deportation liability notice or deportation liability order.
