6262 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Rail: What is KiwiRail’s current maintenance backlog (in dollar value and kilometres of track), and how much larger that backlog is forecast to become by 2029 with KiwiRail's budget cuts of $200 million?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: KiwiRail advises it has no maintenance backlog. The company is delivering its Rail Network Investment Programme as it recommended and is operating a safe rail service on those assets.
