6259 (2026). Tangi Utikere to the Minister for Rail: How many direct and indirect jobs (including contractors and supply chains) are expected to be lost nationally, if any, as a result of the funding decision to reduce rail network funding by $200 million?

Rt Hon Winston Peters: The $1.3 billion investment in 2024 – 27 Rail Network Investment Programme (RNIP) is commensurate with the level of investment in the previous RNIP. There are significant resourcing changes planned specifically related to the RNIP savings. We expect KiwiRail to continue ensuring efficient infrastructure delivery, which will require specialist contractors as required.
