6254 (2026). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: Does the Minister agree with the majority of New Zealanders that were surveyed in the latest Environmental Perceptions Survey, who consider climate change as the top environmental issue facing New Zealand?
Hon Penny Simmonds: Yes. The Government is actively reducing emissions through measures such as strengthening the Emissions Trading Scheme, investing over $400 million to accelerate the development and commercialisation of emissions mitigation technologies in the agriculture sector, and accelerating the transition to clean energy through the fast-track ‘Electrify NZ’ and Supercharging EV Infrastructure schemes. The Government remains focused on building resilience to climate impacts through our National Adaptation Framework, which is a key tool that complements New Zealand’s existing national adaptation plan and refocuses effort on the actions that need to be accelerated.
