6220 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Associate Minister of Education: What is the total amount of funding remaining, if any, in the appropriation for Charter Schools I Kura Hourua over the 2025/26 financial year?

Hon David Seymour: I am advised that the year-to-date spend in the Charter Schools | Kura Hourua multi-category appropriation 1 July to 31 December 2025 is $20.521 million (unaudited). The 2025/26 Budget per Estimates is $57.235 million. The Charter School Agency (the Agency) publishes twice-yearly updates on its website at: https://www.charterschools.govt.nz/corporate-documents/ The budget and delivery profile will continue to be updated to reflect demand (including roll-based operational funding) and approved changes and transfers from the state sector, based on the principle that funding follows the student. As the Agency contracts with more sponsors and the delivery profile becomes clearer (i.e. when schools are established and grow), any surplus funding will be transferred to future years or returned to the Treasury.
