6052 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: How many, if any, of the households living in emergency housing motels between December 2023 and December 2024 were then housed by Kāinga Ora in state homes and how many, if any, were housed by Community Housing Providers?

Hon Tama Potaka: I am advised that the Ministry of Social Development (MSD) is unable to provide the information sought by the Member. Obtaining the information requested would require substantial collation and engagement and divert MSD staff from their core duties. In accordance with Speaker’s Ruling 210/6, I consider that the time, and hence the expense, of answering the Member’s question is not in the public interest. I can, however, provide month-end number of households who exited emergency housing (EH) and were housed by Kāinga Ora and Community Housing Providers for September 2024 and December 2024. • 159 households had attained social housing (15 through Community Housing Providers, 144 through Kāinga Ora) for households exited emergency housing in September 2024. • 141 households had attained social housing (15 through Community Housing Providers, 126 through Kāinga Ora) for households exited emergency housing in December 2024. After leaving EH, households are under no obligation to tell MSD where they are moving to. Tracking outcomes over time is a complex task due to the scale of information involved, the wide range of assistance people may receive through MSD, and the need to respect individuals' reasonable right to privacy.
