5988 (2026). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: What, if anything, is the appointment process to a Board position on the Teaching Council?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry follows guidance from central agencies (for example PSC’s Board Appointment and Induction Guidelines (BAIG)) when managing appointment processes. This includes providing advice on position requirements (including skills), undertaking due diligence processes such as assessing potential conflicts of interest, and providing material for Cabinet processes. Specific requirements for Ministerial appointments to the Teaching Council are outlined in section 476(1) of the Education and Training Act 2020.
