5971 (2026). Lan Pham to the Minister of Conservation: Did the Department of Conservation provide any advice to Taumata Arowai regarding the Wastewater Environmental Performance Standards given DOC is responsible for the Whakapapa wastewater treatment plant in Tongariro National Park?

Hon Tama Potaka: Yes. DOC staff consulted with The Water Services Authority – Taumata Arowai during the development of the Wastewater Environmental Performance Standards. I am advised that consultation was focused on how the Standards would apply to DOC wastewater systems and its operations generally, rather than how the Standards would relate to the Whakapapa wastewater treatment plant specifically.
