5823 (2025). Celia Wade-Brown to the Minister of Conservation: What advice, reports, briefings, aides-memoire, or any other documents, if any, has the Minister or any member of her Office received from the Department of Conservation on spending of “$1.1 million every year on maintenance of such huts”, by title and date?
Hon Tama Potaka: I interpret the question as relating to the Department’s current 2024/25 review of the fees for Basic and Bivvy Huts. I have not received any advice, reports, briefings, aides-memoire, or any other documents on the specific figure referred to in this question. The Department informs me that the $1.1 million figure is from the Basic and Bivvy hut review consultation paper; and that it relates to an estimate of the annual cost, including depreciation, required to maintain the Department’s 380 Basic and Bivvy huts on Public Conservation Land to the relevant hut standards. It is not the money actually spent on maintenance.
