5799 (2024). Lemauga Lydia Sosene to the Minister of Internal Affairs: What evidence, if any, has the Minister received that suggests legislative changes do not need to be made to better regulate child exploitation material, as stated in the Minister's Q+A interview on April 7?
Hon Brooke van Velden: I have received advice from the Department of Internal Affairs (the Department) that there are non-legislative avenues that can be explored to minimise online harms.
There are existing laws in place to limit the distribution of illegal content like child exploitation and extremist material. We also already have non-legislative approaches that are effective such as the Digital Child Exploitation Filtering System where Internet Service Providers are voluntarily using the filter to prevent access to child exploitation material online.
