5774 (2024). Dr Tracey McLellan to the Minister of Corrections: Further to reply 1874 (2024). How many Nurse shifts at Whanganui Prison, if any, have been overtime and what percentage of nurses did overtime shifts in March 2024?

Hon Mark Mitchell: Like many other agencies and businesses, Corrections has experienced a number of staffing challenges over the last few years. Corrections’ recruitment campaign is ongoing and I have been assured that hiring and training frontline staff will remain a top priority for Corrections. I am advised that Corrections has guidance in place to ensure that nurses can manage any overtime shifts they work. Measures include recognising fatigue and its risk, limiting hours worked in a day or week, and the number of consecutive shifts. I am further advised that providing the number of nurse shifts that were overtime, or the percentage of nurses that did overtime in March 2024, would involve substantial collation and manual analysis. I am not prepared to ask my officials to carry out this task for the purposes of this response.
