5772 (2025). Tamatha Paul to the Associate Minister of Housing: Does the Minister have an advisory group of tenants, and if so, who is on that group?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Minister of Housing, Hon Chris Bishop, has met with the Tenants Advocates’ Network (TAN) to understand issues they are seeing on the ground and discuss the Government’s work in relation to the rental market. I intend to continue regular engagements with TAN in my role as Associate Minister of Housing, in relation to my responsibility for tenancy and tenure matters. TAN is a national group of organisations involved in tenant advocacy. TAN members include organisations such as Citizens Advice Bureau NZ, New Zealand Council of Christian Social Services, Tenants Protection Association Auckland, Manawatū Tenants Union, the Salvation Army, and Community Law Centres o Aotearoa, among others. Officials at Te Tūāpapa Kura Kāinga – Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) also meet regularly with TAN to test policy and operational matters and to understand rental market issues. MBIE has limited funding arrangements with TAN and its members.
