5736 (2024). Ricardo Menéndez March to the Minister of Immigration: How does Immigration New Zealand report, if at all, on the welfare of children coming to New Zealand on work and entertainment visas?

Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that Immigration New Zealand (INZ) does not specifically report on the welfare of children coming to New Zealand on work and entertainment visas. I am further advised that the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (MBIE) is a designated Child Welfare and Protection Agency (CWPA) under the Oranga Tamariki Act 1989. This means that MBIE have the ability to voluntarily request and disclose personal information with other CWPAs for specified purposes relating to the safety and wellbeing of any child or young person. INZ would take appropriate steps to share information with the Labour Inspectorate and other CPWAs, should they identify any safety or wellbeing concerns relating to children in New Zealand on temporary visas.
