5704 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister of Education: Who, if anyone, did the Ministry of Education involve in the development of the refreshed curriculum who brought the perspectives of disabled learners and neurodivergent learners?
Hon Erica Stanford: I am advised that, throughout 2024 and 2025, the Ministry of Education (the Ministry) established curriculum contributing groups and review groups to support the curriculum development and review process. In establishing these groups, the Ministry considered members with expertise in both designing inclusive curricula, and working in diverse settings. Some review groups across both the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa also included representation from the deaf community. Additionally, public consultation provides the sector and wider public, including disabled and neurodivergent learners, with the opportunity to provide feedback.
