5681 (2026). Hon Dr Duncan Webb to the Minister of Corrections: What advice, reports, briefings, aides-mémoire or other correspondence has the Minister received regarding the impact of the proposed amendments to the Summary Offences Act upon the projected prison population?

Hon Mark Mitchell: I have received advice on a cabinet paper seeking agreement to amendments to the Summary Offences Act. This advice noted that the policy change is projected to increase the prison population by six prisoners per annum, at the high estimate, within two years of enactment.
