5668 (2024). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: When did Oranga Tamariki temporarily stop replacing lawyers who left Oranga Tamariki?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised that in November 2023, Oranga Tamariki put a recruitment pause in place for a range of roles as part of preparing for organisational change and in line with government expectations around financial sustainability. Legal roles were included in the pause. An exemptions process was applied if it was considered that a ‘paused’ role needed to be recruited. All open legal positions in the recruitment system have subsequently been filled through the exemption process.
