5660 (2024). Hon Jan Tinetti to the Minister of Education: How many, if any, school construction projects have been postponed or downscaled between and inclusive of November 2023 and March 2024, broken down by school?

Hon Erica Stanford: The Ministry of Education (the Ministry) has initiated a process for reviewing 352 Ministry-led projects across 305 schools and kura pre-construction to identify opportunities to achieve better value for money. The value for money reviews are an operational matter for the Ministry and are not related to the Ministerial Inquiry into school property. Reviews are underway and will continue through April 2024. Following the reviews, projects will go through the Ministry's assurance and prioritisation processes. These will be linked to Budget outcomes, with decisions for many schools being communicated from June 2024, in particular growth projects which rely on the outcomes of the annual Budget process. Outcomes for school construction projects will be available once this process is completed.
