5649 (2025). Chlöe Swarbrick to the Minister of Climate Change: Since December 2024, what work, if any, listed by subject and agency carrying out the work, has the Minister or his Office commissioned on biogenic methane emissions targets?

Hon Simon Watts: The Climate Change Commission was required by the Climate Change Response Act 2002 to review the 2050 target. It provided its report in November 2024. I must respond to this advice by Nov 2025. The Ministry for the Environment together with the Ministry for Primary Industries is progressing work on the the 2050 target review, including the biogenic methane emission component of the target.
