5644 (2026). Dr Lawrence Xu-Nan to the Minister of Education: Do schools and/or the Ministry of Education need to pay insurance excess through the Risk Management Scheme; if so, who pays the excess and how much is the excess?
Hon Erica Stanford: Yes. Schools do need to pay an insurance excess under the Ministry of Education’s (the Ministry) Risk Management Scheme. I am advised that the excess is $100 for contents claims up to $1,000, and $500 for all other contents claims. Liability excesses generally range from $250 to $500, with higher amounts for drone related claims. The school, not the Ministry, pays the excess.
