5626 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Associate Minister of Health: Will Pharmac consider the impacts, if any, on users of Medtronic pumps in it's decisions regarding continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps and consumables, namely lack of a funded compatible continuous glucose monitors, and a lack of options that are as reliable with respect to regulating blood glucose levels?
Hon David Seymour: I am advised by Pharmac that on 28 March 2024 it was seeking feedback on a proposal to fund continuous glucose monitors, insulin pumps, and insulin pump consumables. Pharmac welcomes all types of feedback on its consultation, including information and personal experiences with different devices, as this will help to inform their final decision. The role of the Pharmac Board is to decide which medicines and devices are publicly funded. Pharmac works with external experts when making these difficult decisions and is guided by robust evidence, the expertise of clinicians and the healthcare sector, and wider public.
