5612 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: How much funding do catchment groups receive annually from central government; broken down by respective groups?
Hon Penny Simmonds: Annual funding to catchment groups vary year on year. The Ministry for the Environment is directly providing $17.3m towards the following catchment groups currently. These are open multi-year projects, finishing on or before 30 June 2026:
- Waimatā Catchment Group Incorporated ($845,500)
- Wanaka Catchment Group ($1,132,269)
- Pōrangahau Catchment Group - Taurekaitai ki Te Paerahi Incorporated ($2,149,984)
- Upper Taieri Wai ($4,550,000)
- Tukipo Catchment Care Group ($2,268,337)
- Uretara Estuary Managers ($1,748,000)
- Clean Stream Karamea ($520,000)
- Hokianga Harbor Care Incorporated ($1,200,000)
- Manuherekia Catchment Group Incorporated ($2,889,720).
An additional $38.85m is provided to other non-catchment group organisations for projects where the main purpose is to support catchment groups.
Catchment groups and other community groups/landowners are also able to access financial support through other projects, such as the $100m Kaipara Moana Remediation Programme.
