5607 (2024). Lan Pham to the Minister for the Environment: In the most recent year that data is available, what were the consumptive volumes of drinking water compared with those for water consents?

Hon Penny Simmonds: The most recent year that data is available is 2018. I refer the Member to the NIWA Client Report available on the Ministry for the Environment's website at: https://environment.govt.nz/assets/Publications/Files/national-water-allocation-statistics.pdf The consented volume assigned to drinking water use was approximately 2,164 million cubes out of 12,935 million cubes, or about 17 % (Table 4-1 on page 20).
