5573 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Associate Minister of Housing: What steps, if any, have been taken to ensure that all Housing First households are on the Housing Register?
Hon Tama Potaka: There are a number of reasons why households in the Housing First programme are not on the Housing Register.
Some Housing First households will go on to the social housing register while they wait to access social housing. However not all households in the Housing First programme will have completed the assessment process and be represented in the social housing register numbers. Not all Housing First households go (or even want to go) into social housing; some go into private rentals or other supported housing situations.
I am advised that MSD officials have been working with Housing First providers delivering on the 300 additional places funded last year to ensure that households in the service are undertaking the assessment process so that they can be placed on the Housing Register. This is also my response to WPQs 5574, 5575 and 5576 (2026).
