5556 (2026). Celia Wade-Brown to the Minister of Conservation: Has there been any Department of Conservation planning using Bio Invest or other considerations, to prioritise funding for fencing existing sanctuaries, proposed sanctuaries including the Wainuiomata Orongorongo Water Collection Area, and how to create defensible areas as we move to less than 25 years to Predator Free 2050?
Hon Tama Potaka: The Department of Conservation uses BioInvest to inform priorities for conservation activities, including fencing and other measures to protect high-value habitats. It supports decisions on where investment will deliver the greatest biodiversity outcomes, including the creation of defensible areas where appropriate, alongside tools such as intensive predator control, as part of progress towards Predator Free 2050.
