5494 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Associate Minister of Transport: How, if at all, was the role of Chair of Maritime New Zealand Authority advertised?

Hon James Meager: The current Chair was appointed in 2018 by the Minister of Transport at that time. I am advised by the Ministry of Transport that candidates were identified through public advertisement on the Treasury’s Board Appointments database and the Ministry of Transport’s LinkedIn page, targeted searching undertaken by Ministry of Transport officials, and a call for nominations from organisations within the maritime sector, Government support and coalition parties, caucus colleagues, and public sector nominating agencies.
