5486 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister for the Environment: How, if at all, was the role of Chair of the Board of the Environmental Protection Authority advertised?

Hon Penny Simmonds: The advertising for the role of Chair of the Environmental Protection Authority was conducted in accordance with the Public Service Commission’s best practice guidelines. This included seeking nominations through: • nominating agencies (Ministry for Women, Te Puni Kōkiri, Ministry for Pacific Peoples, Ministry for Ethnic Communities, and Ministry of Disabled People) • public advertising (Ministry for the Environment website, LinkedIn, Seek and Jobs.govt.nz for a two-week period) • an external recruitment agency • caucus and coalition partners • industry stakeholders.
