5383 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: What is now occurring at Oranga Tamariki's Korowai Manaaki youth justice facility to follow-on from the 12-week step-in process completed in late 2025?

Hon Karen Chhour: Following the 12-week reset plan at Korowai Manaaki, I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that senior leadership in the Youth Justice Services and Residential Care group are monitoring performance at the residence on an ongoing basis, to ensure that the improvements are embedding and the change is sustained. Positive changes for the residence from the reset plan include improved staff engagement, strengthened processes and improvements to the residence infrastructure. I am further advised key focus areas for monitoring and embedding activities include supporting quality residential practice, such as assurance checks, and developing leadership capability, such as ongoing professional development days and having dedicated ‘on-the-floor' presence.
