5372 (2025). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Further to 3100 (2025), how often, if at all, does Oranga Tamariki collect information about the number of very urgent reports of concern that are not addressed within 48 hours?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that they are constantly collecting information about reports of concern. This includes volumes of reports of concern and, for those reports of concern Oranga Tamariki have assessed require a response within 24 or 48 hours, whether a safety assessment is completed within those timeframes. I am further advised that the information Oranga Tamariki holds is based on records entered by staff into the CYRAS recording system. CYRAS data is then updated daily to Oranga Tamariki reporting tools. While this means Oranga Tamariki can use data in near real-time to assist with operational decision making, operational data is not considered official data suitable for publication until sufficient time has passed to enable staff to finish entering records, and until work has been undertaken to ensure a level of data quality. I am also advised that the distinction between operational and official data is routine and widely applied across Government.
