Hon Barbara Edmonds to the Minister of Finance: What consultation, if any, took place with the Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 Lessons Learned (Te Tira Ārai Urutā) commissioners, prior to the announcement on 11 February 2026 of the independent review of New Zealand’s monetary policy response to the Covid-19 pandemic, and on what dates did these take place?

Hon Nicola Willis: The Treasury informed the Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 Lessons Learned (Te Tira Ārai Urutā) about the independent review of COVID-19 monetary policy in December 2025. Decisions taken by the MPC are out of scope of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into COVID-19 Lessons Learned.
