Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (October to December 2023) to ‘Consider options for kaupapa Māori and Māori-led programmes for whānau affected by cancer’ under Outcome 4: New Zealanders have better cancer survival, supportive care and end-of-life care, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Te Aho o Te Kahu, working in partnership with Hei Āhuru Mōwai – the Māori Cancer Leadership Network, have been working across the sector. Examples in the last quarter (October to December 2023) include: - Cancer screening – Pae Whakatere group overseeing changes to breast screening; - Cancer navigation – 20 Māori providers funded to introduce or scale up cancer navigation services in their communities. - Rongoā – cross-agency working group set up to understand current state of public funding for rongoā services.
