5253 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: Has the concurrent whānau programme for the second Oranga Tamariki Military-Style Academy programme been designed; if so, how will it be implemented?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki that there is not a separate programme for families/whānau. Rather, they will be supported concurrently at the same time as the young people are participating in the Military-Style Academy programme, including during the residential phase. I am further advised support for families/whānau will be provided through a combination of professionals including youth justice social workers, Military-Style Academy programme staff (for example, Case Leaders) and tailored support as needed, such as Whānau Ora navigators.
