Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What progress has been made in the last quarter (October to December 2023) to ‘Increase uptake of advance care plans’ under Outcome 4: New Zealanders have better cancer survival, supportive care and end-of-life care, as part of the New Zealand Cancer Action Plan 2019 – 2029?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that in the October to December 2023 quarter the advance care planning programme continued to train and support district-level train-the-trainers, and to guide implementation managers responsible for introducing advance care planning at district level. Health New Zealand expect these actions could result in an increase in the uptake of advance care plans, including for cancer treatments.
