5244 (2026). Hon Willow-Jean Prime to the Minister for Children: What changes, if any, have been made to the recruitment process for participants on Oranga Tamariki's second Military-Style Academy?

Hon Karen Chhour: I am advised by Oranga Tamariki the selection of participants for the new Military-Style Academy programme is based on the eligibility criteria in the Oranga Tamariki (Responding to Serious Youth Offending) Amendment Bill along with their age, histories of serious and repeat offending, prior supervision with activity orders and/or supervision with residence orders. I am further advised that the recruitment process for the new Military-Style Academy programme has included greater involvement from youth justice social workers in identifying potential participants who would benefit from the programme.
