5240 (2024). Hon Dr Ayesha Verrall to the Minister of Health: What limitations, if any, arise from the rates for prostate cancer given it is calculated using ‘total population’ rather than ‘sex-specific population’?

Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that the rate calculation used depends on the purpose for which it was intended, and from a risk factor and model of care perspective sex-specific rate is more suitable. If looking at prostate cancer from a total burden of disease perspective using all of population is superior.
