5235 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How much, if anything, had Kāinga Ora spent on its School Road, Kingsland, Auckland development site prior to the project being abandoned and how much, if any, of the funds spent were written off?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora – Homes and Communities advises me that there was $767,215 of operating and capital expenditure on 1A School Road, Auckland. Of this, $586,163 in capital expenditure was written off owing to the project being cancelled. Kāinga Ora removed 13 units that were old and no longer suitable for social housing. A redevelopment project of 41 social homes was proposed. The resource consent application was lodged but later withdrawn after the project proved financially unviable. Kainga Ora is assessing future options for this site and will keep community and stakeholders informed as decisions are made. The decision reason for not proceeding with this project is also captured in this publicly available on the Kāinga Ora website at: - https://kaingaora.govt.nz/assets/Publications/OIAs-Official-Information-Requests/August-2025/26-August-2025-Criteria-for-Cancelled-Projects.pdf?v=7141a3cd2dc1edbeb3df7c88b885d358787ef2cd
