Hon Penny Simmonds: I am advised that the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC) does not hold data on the year of study a learner is enrolled in, as they do not collect specific qualification data to determine which year of study a learner is in. I refer the member to the attached table that shows the number of funded nursing enrolments between 2018 and 2023 (interim data), broken down by nursing qualification type. The table is divided into three categories of nursing qualifications: • Nursing - undergraduate level: Bachelor (Level 7) and Bachelor with Honours (Level 8) nursing degrees that are a pre-requisite for nursing registration. • Nursing - graduate level: Master’s degrees (Level 9) that are a pre-requisite for nursing registration, designed for learners who have previously completed a degree in a non-nursing subject area. • Enrolled Nursing: Diploma (Level 5) that is a pre-requisite for registration as an Enrolled Nurse. Enrolled nurses operate under the guidance of a registered nurse. Disclaimers: Data is presented as at 9 April 2024 for reporting years 2018 - 2023 for funded learners only and has been sourced through administrative data held by the TEC. The 2023 data is interim and has not been finalised. Values are therefore subject to revision as data is updated. Learners can be counted more than once when they are reported in more than one nursing qualification type. The totals in the table remove learners that are counted more than once. Therefore, the sum of learner numbers in each qualification type may not equal the totals in the table. Results are based on information reported through the Single data Return (SDR) for the purposes of funding tertiary education. The data does not include any reporting outside of the SDR and relies on the accuracy of data reported by Tertiary Education Organisations (TEO). This data has been compiled specifically to respond to this question. It uses administrative data collected by the Tertiary Education Commission for the purposes of funding tertiary education and relies on the accuracy of data reported by TEOs. Care should be taken when making comparisons with data collected or compiled for other purposes.
