5232 (2026). Hon Kieran McAnulty to the Minister of Housing: How many, if any, Kāinga Ora properties with ten or more units in Auckland have all units either vacant or removed from service and for each such property, where is it located, how many units are there and what plans, if any, does Kāinga Ora have for the site?
Hon Chris Bishop: Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities advises me that five properties in Auckland with ten or more units have all units vacant or removed from service. Eleven units in Morning Star Place, Mount Albert, have been removed from service and are undergoing major repairs. These units will then be re-let. Twelve units in St Jude Street, Avondale, and 36 units in Blockhouse Bay Road, Avondale will be sold. Kāinga Ora sells properties that are ageing, unsuitable, or in the wrong locations for today’s social housing demands. Revenue from sales is reinvested into the housing portfolio to support maintenance, renewal, and construction of new homes. I refer the Member to the attachment provided by Kāinga Ora.
