5223 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics

5223 (2026). Francisco Hernandez to the Minister of Statistics: What is the current level of compliance, if any, within the Minister’s departments, agencies, crown entities and any other bodies that the Minister is responsible for, if any, with NZ Government Web Standards, which require public sector websites to be accessible?
Hon Dr Shane Reti: I am advised that Stats NZ has reviewed its most recent Centralised Web Accessibility Checker (CWAC) results and acknowledged its current level of compliance is low. Stats NZ is developing a new website, planned for launch at the end of 2026. The new platform will be built to meet the expected web standards and is designed to support achieving a CWAC score of zero ahead of the Government Chief Digital Officer’s December 2030 target.  Stats NZ has also since implemented several fixes on  www.stats.govt.nz, including improvements to focus states, keyboard accessibility, and content. Further issues identified will be prioritised and addressed throughout 2026.
